The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) class is a statistically based training program for all members of the Madison community interested in demystifying these frightening events. The training includes: A statistical breakdown of active shooter events, historical case studies, behavioral tools to maximize your chances of survival, table-top scenario discussions & a Q&A session w/MPD active shooter event experts.

Sergeant Shawn Engel is part of the City of Madison Police Department. Sergeant Engel is a 24 year veteran of the department and since being promoted to sergeant in 2005, Sergeant Engel has held several roles to include Field Training Sergeant, SWAT Team Leader (Tactical and Negotiators), Special Events Team Leader, Mounted Team Leader and CRASE Team Leader. Sgt. Engel is also a state certified instructor in Firearms, Tactical Response, and Scenario Based Training.
